This week’s Weekly Photo Challenge theme is “Unusual”.
I’ve seen all sorts of unusual buildings – but this is definitely one of the strangest.
I don’t know what it is (does anyone recognize it?) – I only saw it from a distance. All I can really tell you is that it’s in Copenhagen!
I recognized it!! There are several strange buildings in the Nordic countries.
Cool! Do you have any idea what it is?
This must be a church tower, it has been a long time ago since I visited Copenhagen.
I thought it might be a church too, but on the other hand there’s no cross on top…I just don’t know.
Perhaps it’s not a Catholic church….
Um…any Christian church is likely to display a cross, Catholic or other. (It is a church, though – further down in the comments Ink.[Anette] explained that it’s the Vor Frelser Kirke or Our Savior Church. So you’re right.)
Cool!
Definitely! I wish we had a chance to get closer to it, but time was limited.

That’s quite strange, almost an optical illusion! well spotted 🙂
Thank you! (And coming from you, Gilly, that’s a huge compliment – you have an eye for strangeness and optical illusions yourself.)
This is so cool! It makes me wonder what it’s like inside?!
Me too! There’s clearly a way to get up to the tower, since you can see people on the balcony and I think some climbing the stairs.

Very unusual! At first glance, it looked like only half of a building, but I see now that it’s a spiral. Interesting, that’s for sure.
Yes – a really unusual design.
No clue but it looks beautiful.
It’s a very striking building, whatever it is.
This is the tower of Vor Frelser Kirke in København. It’s a church. Build in 1750. Architect Lauritz de Thurah.
Thank you so much!!
You’re welcome :o)

Thank you again! Very interesting – it seems that the figure at the very top of the spire is Christ. I guess that explains why there’s no cross!

I’ve never seen anything like it anywhere else.

That is really interesting. What a great photo.
Thank you.
Fascinating architecture for the 1700’s, looks like a long climb to the top, I too thought it was only half a building, as if they had only enough money for the front half. 🙂
It’s definitely more eccentric and creative than what we expect from the eighteenth century, isn’t it?
what a terrific entry for this week
Glad you like it. Thank you!
It is unusual, but very beautiful 🙂
A lovely building.

Great post for this week topic 🙂
Thanks.
that’s a beautiful architecture… what ever that is.
nice photo. thanks for the share. now I wish to visit copenhagen to see the gran place with my own eyes 🙂
Copenhagen is a beautiful city – see it if you get the chance. As for what the building is, Ink.[Anette] posted a comment telling us that it’s the Vor Frelser Kirke (Our Savior Church) – well, not the whole church, but this is the (very unusual) spire. So at last I know!
Off to google it – it looks fascinating…
One of the most – okay, I’ll say it – unusual buildings I’ve ever seen!
