Wannabe novelist; curious about almost anything; easily distracted and full of enthusiasms, and thus disorganized; wife, cook, knitter, friend, reader, mother, Episcopalian, gardener of sorts, aikido student, South Jerseyite, sometime traveler, sentimental pack rat.
(Note: I’ve just had it pointed out to me – as of late December 2012 – that “Newpillowbook” is a confusing name. Here’s the story.
It’s like this. About a thousand(!) years ago, there was an amazing burst of literature in Japan, written by women at the emperor’s court. Aside from writing the first novel in history (the Tale of Genji), several of them produced interesting diaries, which they called “pillow books” because that’s where they stored the manuscripts, and I’m a big fan of Sei Shonagon’s Pillow Book – which talks about anything and everything that caught her interest.
So when I was first setting up this blog, and knew that I didn’t want to concentrate on just one subject, I decided that it could be described as a “new” type of pillow book.)
I really like your blog but in all honesty I think you should have updated this page. Let us know who you are! That’s what blogging is all about :D.
You’re right – I keep meaning to update this, and being too entangled in other projects to do it! Thanks for the nudge…maybe this is what I needed.
Okay – it’s done!
I’m a South Jerseyite too. 🙂
Well, a transplanted one. But I still don’t like to pump my own gas. lol!
I’ve pumped gas when venturing into those other states, but I like the Jersey way!
In the “better late than never” category, please accept my congratulations on your remarkable entry in Dark Globe’s photo contest. Judging was a very difficult job and I’m just happy your work was enjoyed by many, many people.
Lorna
Thank you so much, Lorna!
Thank you. Happy Holi 🙂
Hi there, thank you so much for the recipe – pop overs & yorkshire pudding. Love them, while living over in UK and Ireland I ate them cold. We did 1000 of them per week. Had a recipe for popovers ages ago – and then when I have to make yorkshires I thought it must be the same as those popovers I did ages ago. Will do some this week using your instructions. Thank you so much. Viveka
Aw, thank YOU!
Hello! I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! 🙂 http://leajurock.wordpress.com/2012/05/06/versatile-blogger-award/
Thank you, Lea! It’s going to take me a little time to come up with a response, but I wanted to let you know I got your nomination.
You’re very welcome! I love your blog. 🙂
😀
Dear Sharon, you have just become my 25000th hit and I am so pleased it’s you! I would like to invite you to write a guest post for me. Ideally either a short story set in your town, or an article about your town, either where you live right now or where you grew up. What do you think? would you like to do it? There is no rush, I don’t want you to feel pressured to do it for a few weeks.
Gilly 🙂
Gee, Gilly! (Sorry, couldn’t stop myself 😉 ) Seriously, I am – what? – amazed? blown away? overwhelmed? – and thrilled.
Love to! I’m thinking about a couple of possibilities – one of them won’t be possible till the end of May: photos from a street fair that’s held here the last Saturday of the month. Or a more general article with photos, or a short story as you suggested… I’ll get back to you with something more specific.
Thank you!
Hi! I’m a writer on The Dark Globe and it’s our Follower’s appreciation Month and we’d like to thank you for coming over and being there with us 😀
All the best,
Devina 🙂
Thanks!
Hi there! This is just to let you know that because I regularly enjoy your posts, I’ve nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award. (Read this in one of those computerized voices) Maybe. I. Will. But. Not. Right. Now. Must. Fold. Laundry. Must. Pay. Bills. Must. Write. More. Of. Book. Must…..rebootrebootreboot……….
Hahahaha…you’re hysterical.
Hi, thanks for picking up on the Pete’s Pots blog. We have a common interest in writing too, although mine is usually short non-fiction, and poetry. Always nice to learn about life across the pond. I’ve read quite a few of your posts – eclectic and fascinating.
Hi, Pete – I came across your blog by way of a post by rthepotter. Glad you enjoy my ramblings – “eclectic” is definitely the category here, in the fine old pillow book tradition.
I enjoy your blog on a regular basis and I hope you continue! Here’s my way of saying a great big thank you to you for what you’ve created! I have nominated you for both the Reader Appreciation Award and the Beautiful Blogger Award. http://wp.me/P1ImlN-hF
Last week I sent you a comment nominating you for the Beautiful Blogger Award and the Reader Appreciation Award. A few of the comments went to the spam boxes of other nominees, so I hope you received yours! In any case, I love what you’re doing and am looking very forward to more in 2013! All my best for the holidays! http://becomingmadame.wordpress.com/appreciation/
Thank you, and I’m glad you sent this followup message! You were stuck in my spam box, and so were five or six other legitimate comments. All the best to you and yours too!
Please accept this award to show my appreciation for the art you share and inspire with. http://wp.me/p28tjX-A8
Well, thank you!
So welcome. 🙂

BLOG AWARD FOR YOU- http://itsjennythewren.wordpress.com/2013/01/31/the-liebster-award/ ENJOY X
Just to say that you kiss post ‘can’t be found’ so I couldn’t like or comment!
Hi Gilly – I mis-typed the link on the Weekly Photo Challenge comment – try clicking on the “Home” tab on my page. (It’s a shame there’s no way to edit comments so you can fix goofs like this 😦 )
Pillow books, I like that!
Can’t you see those Heian ladies grabbing their ink stones and brushes and pulling their diaries out of the bedding to jot down their latest thoughts?
BTW – your gravatar is wonderful!
I can definitely see that and it would be utterly graceful! Thank you – especially since I painted it 🙂
You painted it? Wow. Just wow.
You are a sweetie! Thanks for the ego boost. 🙂
Glad I found your blog as per your lovely English lesson. 🙂
Thank you! Glad you’re here.
You are very welcome. 🙂
Hi there!
Would you be willing to participate in something we are doing for Susie Lindau on Friday morning? I am contacting as many of her followers as possible. My thought is that we all post on our own blogs on Friday with the same title, “Susie Strong”. The content would say something simple like, We are thinking of you. I haven’t known Susie for long but this blogging world is such a family. I thought it would be nice for her to see this message from as many of us as possible. Her husband is going to be updating us after her surgery. He can tell her or she can see it once she is up to it. Are you in? Thanks, Maria aka brickhousechick
Maria, what a wonderful idea! And I wish I had been home to respond – I would DEFINITELY have joined in. (My mother has been sick, and I was out of state helping her. With no Internet access.) Maybe I’ll do a belated “Susie Strong” post…
No problem. I’m sorry to hear that your mom is ill. I am sure Susie will continue to appreciate the Susie Strong posts. 🙂
