Happy Fourth of July!

Just some ordinary Township-sponsored fireworks –

at the high school football field

down at the end of my street

photographed with my little point and shoot camera

set on manual so the flash wouldn’t try to light up the fireworks

with no tripod (as you can see)

though some of the motion

is the firework exploding, not the camera jiggling.

And I can’t photograph the noise, or the smell of the smoke, or the thud! in your chest.

Happy 236th birthday to the United States.

  1. Love the wiggly firework effects!

  2. Our small town does them too…at the fairgrounds. But we can see them beautifully from our front yard, so we have a block party. Nothing feels so quintessentially American…

    • Most years we walk down the street and squeeze into the stands to watch them – but this time, to be honest, it was so hot all day and into the evening that I just walked across the street to take these photos! (I was only a block and a half away.) And yes, quintessentially American – was it John Adams who recommended that we celebrate the Fourth with fireworks forevermore?
